Today, we are going to discuss the "Basic actions that can be done with IAI's RoboCylinderHere is a note about "The
I mainly design production equipment (manufacturing and assembly lines) and specialized processing machines, both of which often use IAI's robocylinders.
The advantage of the RoboCylinder is that it uses a simple structure to push and pull, or push a workpiece out with a pitch motion, which would be complicated with an air cylinder. Robocylinders are also very effective in equipment that handles a wide variety of products. It would be a shame to use robocylinders simply to replace air cylinders. It is.
So today I will note the basic actions that RoboCylinder can do and the settings that it can be configured to do.If you are a beginner in mechanical design, please check it out.
What IAI's RoboCylinder can do for you
Actions that RoboCylinder can perform
There are three basic actions that a robocylinder can perform.
- Positioning motion with ±0.02 mm repeatability
- Movement of a specified distance from the origin or from another position as a starting point, pitch movement
⇒Unlimited pitch feed with incremental movement - Pressing action to hold a workpiece, etc. in a pressed state

Adjustments and settings that can be made with RoboCylinder
Adjustments and settings that can be made on the robo-cylinder are as follows
- Signal can be output when the actuator enters the set range (zone output)
⇒Can be used in place of sensors at intermediate points or for arrival determination - Input to decelerate and stop the slider by an external signal during slider movement (pause input)
⇒Available for interlocks, etc. - Can be set to change speed or position while moving.
- Individual settings for acceleration and deceleration
Supplemental] Smoothness of movement and setting of movement patterns
Air cylinders basically start and stop abruptly, but ROBOCYLINDER has the advantage of adjustable acceleration and deceleration for smooth operation.
- Speed can be set in 1 mm/s increments.
- Acceleration can be set in 1/100G increments
In other words, it is very effective in reducing cycle time because of its fast but smooth operation (reduced vibration) when conveying (extruding) workpieces, etc., isn't it? RoboCylinders can also be used for what is commonly referred to as "product switching" by setting the operation. This eliminates the need to readjust the speed control when changing setups, as is the case with air cylinders.
Finally.
IAI's robocylinders are inexpensive in price and are said to use 1/5 the amount of electricity of air cylinders.
We designers are often specified by end-users, but in some cases we need to make our own proposals, so we would like to understand the features of not only IAI's robocylinders but also other manufacturers.
That's it.
