The story that R-surfaces are better than C-surfaces for sheet metal parts at the corners

I wonder if R is more common than C for sheet metal chamfering.

When I saw the person's tweet, I did not have the right answer about it and retweeted the tweet.

R-surfaces are better for the corners of laser cut parts

Then we received valuable information from a sheet metal manufacturer.

Art Winds Sheet Metal Co.Information from Ms.

We manufacture sheet metal products using a laser processing machine, and R has advantages over C. With C, heat builds up in the corners, so the machine controls the speed to slow down. With R, processing can be done without slowing down. R seems to be better for mass production molds in terms of mold design and mold life. (Let this be our rule of thumb...) If possible, a plate thickness of R or more is said to be ideal. Please make use of this information for your future design.

I see!

I think he said something like it was to improve the efficiency of the head movement. I am talking about sheet metal laser processing.

[S.

In the case of laser cutting of sheet metal, the basic "point" is cut by continuously moving it like a stroke, so I wonder if R would be more convenient to move the laser gun smoothly on the XY axis. In the case of cutting, the trajectory should be programmed to include the diameter of the cutter, so I think it would be easier to move it in a straight line at 45°.

[Mr. K]

In cutting, C is easier and R is more troublesome, so we often ask for C unless otherwise specified.

*In case you are wondering...we use initials for individual names.

I see! I see!

Therefore, we, as designersR shape is the basic rule for laser cutting (+ bending) and sheet metal corners using dies. Yes.

That's it.
